The MDI Music Boosters provide funding for Sea Winds Ensembles to purchase music. The Music Boosters also provide funding for music instruction through the Dick Ordway Voucher Program.

THE SEA WINDS JAZZ ENSEMBLE featuring Professional Jazz Musicians, Community Members, Area Music Teachers, and Select High School musicians.

Ensemble Missions and Goals: Establish a venue for musicians and teachers to share music & ideas. Provide a space to test-run charts intended for use in a school setting. Provide an upper-level ensemble experience for advanced high school students. Make new connections and explore new learning opportunities: Facilitate higher-level learning by bringing together music teachers, high school students, and talented community artists into a single performing ensemble. As new connections are formed, they may also lead to further collaboration and growth in local school music programs. Offer community concerts where students and parents can see their music teachers perform together. Establish a district-wide digital music library accessible to music teachers.  

THE JUNIOR HIGH HONORS JAZZ ENSEMBLE featuring select 7th and 8th-grade musicians from our school district.

Ensemble Missions and Goals: Provide 7th- and 8th-grade students in our school district with the opportunity to perform and learn at a higher level in a full big-band-style jazz ensemble. We will utilize local jazz artists from The Sea Winds Jazz Ensemble as instructors who will co-teach the ensemble. Instructors will include specialists on woodwinds, trumpet, trombone, and the rhythm section. Instructors will be paid using the Dick Ordway Voucher Program.
